DarkStops

Find places devoted to almost anything.

Ordinary maps bury them. DarkStops puts curated, verified dark places on one map: famous graves, historic prisons, catacombs, memorials, witchcraft museums, haunted buildings and occult shops.

01Why DarkStops

Only the places worth an oddly specific detour.

Start with the interesting stuff

Ordinary maps bury them among everything else. This one shows only places with a real, documented connection to death, crime, the occult or the macabre, clustered so the world stays easy to explore.

Know before you go

See photographs, what the collection is actually about, the address, step-free access where known and a link to the official website.

Go straight to directions

Send the destination to Apple Maps or Google Maps. No new navigation system to learn and no address to copy.

See what is nearby

Location is optional. Use Nearby when you want it and the map shows which dark place is closest when you have an hour to spare.

Save a shortlist

Shortlist the places that catch your eye, narrow them by category and show only those places on the map.

Keep your visited record

Mark a place visited and it joins your totals by country and category. Your theme board becomes a record of the subjects you keep coming back to.

02Free means useful

The whole map is included.

Discovery is not the upgrade. Find every place, check the details and get directions without paying or creating an account.

  • Explore every place on the map and search by place, subject or category.
  • Read place details and open directions in Apple Maps or Google Maps.
  • Keep up to ten places in Shortlist and ten in Visited. Premium only removes those limits.

05Questions

Before you make the detour.

Is the full map free?
Yes. Browse and search every place, read the details and open directions. You can also keep up to ten places in each of Shortlist and Visited. Premium only removes those two list limits.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email and no password. What you save stays on your iPhone.
Are you tracking me?
There is no advertising tracking. Location is optional. Anonymous product analytics is off by default and only starts if you opt in; you can turn it off in Settings.
Does it need a signal?
The place catalogue ships inside the app, so the details are always there. The map tiles stream, so the map itself wants a connection.
What counts as a dark place?
An identifiable place that exists now, can be visited or viewed lawfully, and has a substantial, evidenced connection to death, crime, punishment, tragedy, the occult or macabre culture. Tours, private homes, trespass sites and approximate points stay out.
Where do the places come from?
Open data, checked and curated by hand. Venues change their hours and sometimes close, so every card links to the official site. Check before you travel.
